First Suicide Sunday of Spring

Sunday, May 8.  A cool day in the Mojave at about 80 degrees and a breeze coming down from the mountains.  A lovely day to take "Wyle E." on her first trail run since her wiring was finished.  It felt good to put the "Oh, shit" bag together again and strap the camel back on the passenger seat, grab my 44Oz Cherry Pepsi while I filled up on fuel and hit the road up to the Park.  The temperature dropped to a mild 70something as we climbed the mountain into Joshua Tree National Park.  But Wyle E. ran strong, never laboring or faltering.

I knew I was in for a good day.  I decided to run an easy but never disappointing trail, Geology Trail.  It drops down into Pleasant Valley, where the weather was warm and the breeze was less.  I hiked a short distance, surrounded by the most amazing wild flowers, and stunning greenery bringing a new life to the desert.  Once I was back on the trail I was constantly stopping to admire the views.  I have run this trail multiple times and yet I always seem to see something different, or at a new angle.

By the time I climbed my way back out of the valley and up to the main road, the wind had picked up and the temperature had dropped.  The desert was going to be cold that night.  So, disappointed I couldn't spend more time, I left the park and headed back down in to 29.

Now I just have to decide where to go NEXT Sunday.  I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed being out to take them.
